Here is my idea to ween America off it’s oil addiction quickly.
Give car manufacturers $5000 for every car they sell that does not use gasoline.
Charge manufacturers $5,000 for every car they sell that uses gasoline.
There, that’s about it. That will immediately turn around the price imbalance between gas and non-gas vehicles. I use $5,000 as an example. The exact number will, most likely, need to be tweaked.
The problem that exists now is that electric and hydrogen cars cost way more than gas-powered cars. And consumers as a whole just do not respond to those economics and never will. For the most part, people do not want to buy cars that cost so much more that it costs six years to break even.
The American people must band together to move these new cars from prototypes to production faster. And subsidizing the sales of them while penalizing the sals of gas-powered cars will do that.
